Golden Gate Bridge in August

Similar to July but with a slight improvement, especially in the second half of the month. The Pacific High begins to weaken, and occasional warm spells push fog offshore for 2–3 days at a time. These 'heat events' provide unexpected clear windows. The standard fog cycle (foggy morning, clearing midday, fog returns afternoon) still applies on most days.

Late morning to early afternoon (11 AM–3 PM) remains the safest window. Watch for warm spells — when inland temperatures soar above 100°F, the coast paradoxically gets foggier. But when a warm spell reaches the coast itself, you get rare summer clear days that are spectacular.

Still peak tourist season with heavy crowds. Late August sees a slight decrease as families prepare for school. Occasional warm days surprise visitors (75–80°F at the bridge). Similar to July for fog photography. The occasional warm clear days in late August provide rare opportunities for summer sunshine photos of the bridge — the light is warm and the sky is deep blue. These are the days to shoot from Baker Beach or Crissy Field. Keep checking the forecast.

Same as July on fog days — full winter layers. But carry lighter layers too for the occasional warm spell. The temperature range in August can be dramatic: 55°F and foggy one day, 78°F and sunny the next. Check the forecast and dress accordingly.

Outside Lands Music Festival at Golden Gate Park (early August). Stern Grove Festival continues. Labor Day weekend (late August/early September) is very busy at the bridge.
