Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA

Golden Gate Bridge Parking Guide

The Welcome Plaza lot on the south side costs ~$5/hour and is the closest to the bridge, but fills by 9–10 AM on summer weekends. Free alternatives include the Vista Point lot (north side), Battery East in the Presidio, and Battery Spencer in the Marin Headlands. CHP may close the two largest south-side lots from 11 AM–5 PM on peak summer weekends. Public transit is the most reliable option during busy periods.

Skip Parking: Transit Alternatives

Public transit is often faster and less stressful than driving, especially on summer weekends when parking lots fill early and CHP closures block access.

Muni Bus 28

Runs from various SF neighborhoods to the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza. $2.50 single ride or free with a Muni Passport. Stops at the south end of the bridge near the Welcome Plaza. Runs every 10–20 minutes.

Golden Gate Transit

Buses 130 and 150 cross the bridge between San Francisco and Marin County, stopping at both ends. Useful if you want to walk one way and bus back. $7–14 depending on distance. Clipper card accepted.

PresidiGo Shuttle

Free shuttle running through the Presidio with a stop near the bridge. Connects to Muni and BART at the Presidio Transit Center. Wheelchair accessible. Runs on weekends and select weekdays.

Rideshare Drop-off

Uber/Lyft can drop you at the Welcome Plaza or Crissy Field. The ride from downtown SF takes 15–20 minutes and costs $15–25. This avoids parking entirely and lets you start your walk immediately.
