Golden Gate Bridge in March

Mostly clear with occasional fog starting to appear in late March as the Pacific High begins strengthening. Morning visibility is typically excellent. Afternoon fog can sneak in toward month's end but it's usually light and short-lived. On clear days, visibility often exceeds 10 miles.

Mornings are reliably clear. By late March, the afternoon fog pattern begins to emerge — visiting before 2 PM is safer for guaranteed views. Sunset moves past 7 PM after daylight saving time begins (second Sunday), extending golden hour to a comfortable evening time.

Spring break crowds increase mid-month. Wildflowers are at their peak in the Marin Headlands — look for California poppies, lupine, and Indian paintbrush. Rain becomes less frequent. Temperatures are pleasant (highs around 62°F). Whale watching from coastal viewpoints is excellent.

Peak wildflower season in the Marin Headlands creates stunning foreground for bridge photos. The combination of green hills, colorful flowers, and the International Orange bridge is uniquely spring. Golden hour light is warm and the longer days make scheduling easier.

Lighter layers than winter — a fleece and windbreaker are usually sufficient. Still bring a rain jacket for occasional showers. Comfortable walking shoes for wildflower trails. Sunscreen becomes more important as UV strengthens.

St. Patrick's Day Parade (Saturday near March 17). Spring break brings more visitors mid-month. The Marin Headlands wildflower season peaks.
